About the University Speaker Series
In 2005, Student Government passed a $1.20 per-credit-hour student fee increase to provide funding to bring nationally-touring speakers to Southeast.
The Campus Life & Event Services staff is responsible for coordinating
these programs.
Speakers are selected by the students, faculty, and staff at Southeast
Missouri State University. The Campus Life staff solicits input and
ideas from student leaders and members of the campus community and
begins planning in the Spring for the following academic year.
Programs will fit into one or more of the following categories:
- Political/Cultural - Speakers may be political pundits, news correspondents, government officials, or international representatives.
- Diversity/Inclusion - These programs will address various cultures and their interrelatedness.
- Wellness - Topics may include physical and emotional well-being, sexual health, financial responsibility, or other personal wellness issues.
- Social - Presenters may be recognizable popular culture icons who present in lecture format (but not to include performances of bands, comedians, etc.)
All program proposals will be evaluated based on relevance to
University Studies Objectives (pdf),
budget, relevance to current issues/events, availability, and relation
to other campus events. To submit a proposal, or if you have any additional questions, please contact
Campus Life and Event Services.
