TN General Information TN stands for (Trade NAFTA) category. The North American Free Trade Agreement facilitates the entry of Canadian and Mexican citizens to the United States to engage in professional business activities on a temporary basis. The TN allows for admission of individuals for the purpose of: Canadians Citizens · Working for a U.S. employer as a professional; or · Working for a foreign employer (including even a non-Canadian employer) to provide pre-arranged professional services to a U.S. employer. Mexican Citizens · Working for a U.S. employer as a professional · Unlike Canadian citizens, Mexican citizens cannot use the TN category to provide pre-arranged services in the U.S. for a foreign employer; they must be employed directly by a U.S. employer. Canadians and Mexicans can be admitted for periods up to one year. Extensions of stay are also granted in one-year increments. There is no cumulative total limit. Status can be renewed each year indefinitely. Canadians do not need to obtain a visa stamp from a U.S. Embassy or consulate in Canada. They may apply for TN status at the point of entry into the U.S. No prior pre-approved application is needed. |
