ST. LOUIS CAREER SPECIALIST

The St. Louis
Career Specialist will assist the Director in all functions relevant to develop
effective Career Linkages services in the St. Louis area. The Specialist is responsible
for developing and strengthening corporate, agency and community relations that
lead to internship and job placement opportunities for Southeast students and
graduates. The Career Specialist will
work collaboratively with representatives from the Division of Workforce
Development and a wide variety of University offices. The Career Specialist
will serve as the lead Career Linkages contact person on St. Louis area career
opportunities for Southeast students.
Primary Responsibilities
·
Promote
Southeast graduates and near graduates to potential employers by networking
with human resources professionals in the St. Louis area
·
Cultivate
and deepen relationships with metro area employers, both in non-profit and
for-profit sectors
·
Cooperate
closely with campus-based Career Linkages personnel and with Southeast’s St.
Louis area partners in the development and delivery of Career Linkages services
·
Act as
a primary resource for persons seeking information about internships and other
pre-professional practice opportunities
·
Recruit
and maintain sites for student internships and practica
with St. Louis area employers, in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors
·
Establish
and hold regular meetings of a St. Louis area advisory committee of human
resource professionals and key Southeast graduates
·
Recruit
employers to participate in St. Louis area and on-campus events, including meetings
and other related activities
·
Collaborate
with Missouri Department of Workforce Development personnel to foster employer
use of the Missouri’s www.MissouriCareerSource.com
website
·
Organize
and/or participate in career/internship/practica
fairs and job interview sessions for employers
·
Communicate
regularly with academic units on campus about Career Linkages activities
·
Issue
regular reports about activities and projects carried out for St. Louis area
patrons
·
Bachelor’s
degree in business administration, education, human resource management,
psychology or related field
·
Familiarity
with employer hiring processes
·
Significant
experience in developing and strengthening corporate/community/agency
relationships
·
Demonstrated
ability to work independently with little direct supervision
·
Excellent
organizational and administrative skills
·
Evidence
of excellent verbal and written communication skills
·
Strong
interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with multiple constituencies
and differing perspectives to produce collegial solutions
·
Demonstrated experience and understanding of
customer service
·
Demonstrated
commitment to working with multicultural populations and an awareness of issues
affecting women and minorities
Compensation: Commensurate
with education and experience. In addition, the University provides an excellent
