GENERAL STATEMENT OF
POLICY It is the policy of the
University to provide different forms of leaves to meet the needs of its
employees and to comply with Federal and State regulations, e.g.,
Federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. These leaves are grouped
into three general forms: vacation leave, sick leave, and other
miscellaneous leaves. Vacation Leave is
established to enable employees to have periods away from their jobs in
order to rest and rejuvenate. In this manner, employees will be
better able to maintain peak efficiency and effectiveness in their job
performance. A maximum of 240 hours may be accrued by a staff
member based on the following accrual schedule:
Sick leave is established to provide a measure of insurance against loss of income and/or to provide a measure of job security in the event of illness or other medical reasons which keep the employee from his or her job. Sick leave is not intended as a discretionary leave to which the employee is entitled, but rather is provided to meet the needs arising out of medical necessity. The Vice President for Business and Finance shall be responsible for developing operating procedures to implement this policy. Adopted by the Board of
