Southeast STARR Information |
|
The STARR program is built on the concept of teachers teaching
teachers, which enhances its effectiveness. STARR teachers help
their colleagues throughout the state learn the latest and most practical
techniques for promoting active, hands-on learning by students in all
subject areas. By blending a more active teaching learning style
with performance-oriented assessment, teachers can create a learning
environment that encourages students to connect academic knowledge with
real-life situations. When are STARR Teachers Available? STARR teachers are able to facilitate professional-growth activities during regular school hours, after regular hours, or on Saturdays. Teachers will lead sessions any time and at any school site, regardless of staff size. Call 573-651-5956 or email starr@semo.edu to speak with a STARR about scheduling. What is the cost of STARR programs? All travel expenses of the STARR teachers making the presentations will be paid by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. School districts are responsible for other expenses such as: packets of information used during presentation, any refreshments, mileage of teachers traveling to a joint presentation in another district. These expenses may be paid from local professional development funds or from other sources. Scheduling a STARR? To schedule a workshop, please contact the Southeast STARR office at 1-800-401-6680 x3, 573-651-5956 or starr@semo.edu. The Southeast STARR program has several workshops available for area schools. All of these come under the umbrella of Authentic Instruction, which simply means that teachers use hands-on activities and other strategies which actively involve students in their classrooms. Do you have more questions?
The STARR program is co-sponsored by the Department's Leadership Academy.
