WELCOME TO SOUTHEAST GREEK LIFE!

Southeast Missouri State University has enjoyed a long and rich relationship with its collegiate Greek letter social organizations (fraternities and sororities).  The University supports these organizations' efforts to affect student development in positive and lasting ways.  As an important component of Southeast's co-curricular program for undergraduate students, Greek letter chapters further support the mission of the University by providing an enriched out-of-class living and learning experience.  Greek organizations have existed at Southeast since 1952 and are characterized by a tradition of involvement and leadership in campus life.

Currently the University recognizes 11 fraternities, 8 sororities and three governing councils.  Each fraternity and sorority chapter is unique in personality and membership, while promoting the common ideals and values of personal development, scholarship, leadership, community service, philanthropy, self-governance, individual and group initiative and accountability, formation of community, respect for fellow human beings and those that are different from ourselves, and an array of interpersonal and social skills.  Each year, Greek students dedicate themselves to these ideals.

Recent successes include:

  • Over $50,000 in donations to local and regional charities. Some of these include the Susan G. Koman Foundation, March of Dimes, Make A Wish, ADA, United Way, and the Cystic Fibrosis foundation.
  • A leading sponsor of the Special Olympics of Southeast Missouri, by donating $9,467 in 2006 and volunteering annually at the Spring Track and Field meet.
